Finding something to do during a family vacation in Tallahassee, Florida, is easy when there’s so much to see. There’s something for the whole family here, whether you’re looking for a piece of history, the great outdoors, or fun activities.
For an idea of where to start, here are some popular destinations worth checking out on your next Tallahassee vacation:

Challenger Learning Center
If you have a budding astronaut in your midst, you’ll love the Challenger Learning Center. This isn’t your typical museum — you’ll find a great many hands-on experiences that make learning fun.
See what it’s like to embark on a space mission on the center’s simulator. Explore the stars at the dome theater and planetarium, and watch movies about space in the intense IMAX 3D theater. No matter what grade your kids are in, they’ll find something interesting at the Challenger Learning Center.
You can pick and choose which attractions you’d like to experience, so you only pay for what you’re interested in. The IMAX tickets are $8-$10 for adults. General admission to the planetarium and digital dome theater is $5 for adults.
Mission San Luis
Mission San Luis is a living history museum that lets you transport back in time to the year 1703. Learn about the Apalachee Indians and the first Spaniards to land in the area by watching how they lived.
This is a great place to get the kids interested in history and discover how our nation came to be the place it is today. Interact with the re-enactors and walk through the exhibition gallery for an in-depth look into the area’s history.
General admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children 6-17.
Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park
Want to explore the outdoors? Head to Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park. There’s so much to do in this park that you could spend your entire vacation here if you wanted.
The park offers 5 miles of trails you can use for hiking, bicycling, and riding horses. If you brought your poles, there are opportunities to fish for largemouth bass, bluegill, and bream (you’ll need a license). You can also geocache, take out a kayak or canoe, watch for wildlife, and more at this beautiful park.
Admission to the park is $6 per vehicle. To get into the garden during the blooming months, January through April, admission is an extra $6 for adults and $3 for children 2-12.
Tree to Tree Adventures
Take on the obstacle course at Tree to Tree Adventures. Ziplines and aerial obstacle courses let you and your family explore the treetops of Tallahassee. This attraction is part of the Tallahassee Museum, so you’ll also have easy access to explore its 52 beautiful acres of wildlife exhibits and historical buildings.
Tickets start out at $17 per person and vary depending on what attractions you want to do.
Exploring everything Tallahassee has to offer would require a pretty lengthy vacation, so make sure you do your homework before visiting. Finding something exciting to do here that will interest the whole family is easy once you start looking.
