The holidays are coming, and that means the festivities are about to be underway. There are plenty of fun events in the Tallahassee, Florida, area to get into the holiday spirit. Here are five events the whole family might enjoy:
- LeMoyne Arts Annual Holiday Show: The Art of Giving, Nov. 28-Dec. 23

The LeMoyne Arts Annual Holiday Show has been a popular holiday destination in the art community for over 55 years. The LeMoyne Arts Gallery invites artists to submit their pieces every year for the public to see. This year’s theme is “An International Holiday” and will focus on other cultures’ ways of celebrating the holidays. The show will be an excellent chance to learn about other cultures and see local art.
You’ll be able to walk through the gallery on Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.
- Annual Market Days Holiday Shopping Event, Dec. 7-8
If you’re looking for some great gift ideas, make sure you head over to the 54th annual Market Days Holiday Shopping Event. You’ll find arts and crafts of many kinds here, from country-style furniture and dolls to jewelry and photography. About 300 artists and crafters will set up tables at Market Days to sell their beautiful wares. This is a great place to find a thoughtful gift for a loved one who loves handmade items that are full of character.
Market Days will be held at the North Florida Fairgrounds Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for kids 6-12.
- Winter Festival, Dec. 7
If you’re looking for a full evening of Christmas celebration, don’t miss the Winter Festival. This is where you can catch the city’s holiday parade as well as many other activities in downtown Tallahassee. You’ll get to explore art exhibits, try the food vendors, run in the Jingle Bell Run, and more.
The Winter Festival will be held downtown from 3-10 p.m., but the lighting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. at Bloxham Park.
- Elf Night, Dec. 19
This one is for the kids. If you’re looking for the perfect opportunity to meet Santa Claus, show up for Elf Night. Your kids can meet and get a photo with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the North Pole workshop elves at this fun night in the park.
Elf Night will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Dorothy B. Oven Park.
- Hernando De Soto State Archeological Park
Why visit a historical park for the holidays? The Hernando De Soto State Archeological Park is where the first Christmas was celebrated in North America. If you’re looking for a learning experience about the history of Christmas in the New World, this state park is a must-see.
